Anna Ruby Falls History

The history of Anna Ruby Falls in Helen, GA can be traced back to the Civil War period. After the war ended, a colonel known as J.H. Nichols began purchasing land throughout the Nacoochee Valley. According to local tall tales, Nichols was exploring the land he had bought and came across a stunning pair of waterfalls in the middle of the forest. His wife and one of his children had just recently died, so Nicholas decided to name the falls after his only remaining daughter, Anna Ruby. Further investigation revealed the falls had been named in 1819, nearly 50 years before Nichols even owned the land.
