What is a Full Solar Eclipse?

A full solar eclipse occurs when a new moon crosses between the sun and the Earth, casting a shadow on Earth. This is an extremely rare occurrence. In fact, the last total solar eclipse took place on June 8th, 1918, nearly 100 years ago! The full solar eclipse of 2017 is expected to be visible from the Oregon Coast to South Carolina.
