The Old Sautee Store History
The shop you see today was built and operated by the Williams family, one of the valley’s 60 original settlers. The village locals relied heavily upon the store for nearly all of their household items including cleaning supplies, farm supplies, feed, foods, and more.
As time went on, the old shop remained the same until the late 1950’s. During this time, the shop closed and remained empty for many years until it was revived to its former glory. After nearly 135 years, the shop still boasts many of its original characteristics. Walking through the shop is just like touring a museum, and there are many historical objects for you to find. The slave house that used to reside 50 yards from the shop can now be found about a ¼ mile down the road and is open for you to explore.
