The North Georgia region is well-known for its abundance of natural beauty and stunning waterfalls. About Blue Hole Falls and High Shoals in GA
The hike to Blue Hole Falls in GA and High Shoals is a bit more strenuous than the more popular waterfall trails. However, the relatively short distance and the payoff of viewing the waterfalls makes this journey well worth it. Along the trail, you will discover two gorgeous cascades that many would argue are some of the most beautiful in the entire state. Blue Hole Falls is the first one you will encounter. With crystal clear waters that seem to reflect the skies, Blue Hole Falls rightfully earns its title. During the summer months, this is a popular spot for swimming, lounging, and simply enjoying the North Georgia wilderness.
The best part about embarking on this trail is that Blue Hole Falls in GA is only half the fun! Continue down the trail and you will meet Shoal Falls, a larger waterfall with plenty of room for swimming, climbing, and exploring.
Blue Hole Falls Directions
The 2.5-mile hike begins off the graveled Forest Road 283 just north of Helen. As you descend into the forest, the trail will lead you past mossy creeks, backpacking campsites, and gnarly-branched mountain laurel. About a mile down the trail, you will begin to hear the distant sound of crashing water at Blue Hole Falls. You will know you’re close when you come to a fork in the road, with one path veering to the left. Take the left path and it won’t take long to reach the falls and the clear pools below.
After spending some time at Blue Hole Falls, you can either return to the trailhead or continue down the main path for another mile or so to High Shoals Falls.
Things to Bring on Your Hike to Blue Hole Falls in GA
